OneTrust DataGuidance confirmed with Mariana Abudayah, Associate at Nsair & Partners - Lawyers, that "On Monday, August 14, 2023, the Jordanian House of Representatives approved the initial Data Protection Bill as presented by the Economy and Investment Committee at the Jordanian Parliament with restoring some articles to their government-proposed form. The bill, as suggested by the Economy and Investment Committee, was previously reviewed and assessed in the presence of several governmental and nongovernmental entities, including but not limited to the Jordanian National Bank, the Association of Banks in Jordan, the National Cyber Security Center, and Telecommunication Sector."

Mariana explained that "One of the main suggested amendments by the Economy and Investment Committee is the addition of both the head of the National Cyber Security Center and a representative from the National Jordanian Bank part of the Data Protection Council, as well as a representative on behalf of the bank sector, and telecommunication sector. Also, the bill shall be applied to any processor that is processing data inside and outside Jordan."

Furthermore, Mariana continued that "According to the Jordanian Constitution, the bill shall be subject to revision and assessment by the House of Senate; if approved by the latter, it shall be represented before His Majesty King Abdullah II for his royal assent. If the bill has been approved by his Majesty, then it shall be effective after (6) months of being published in the Official Gazette."
