Greenland
Summary
Law: Personal Data Protection Act 2016 (available only in Greenlandic here and in Danish here) (the Act)
Regulator: Danish data protection authority (Datatilsynet)
Summary: Greenland's data protection framework is regulated by the Act which entered into effect on December 1, 2016. The Act is broadly similar to the GDPR and provides legal bases of processing, data transfer requirements, and data subject rights. Greenland is an autonomous territory within Denmark and shares the same data protection regulator, the Datatilsynet. Notably, the Datatilsynet has published notices and orders, as well as a collection of guidelines for Greenland. In addition, Annex II of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) lists Greenland among the Association of Overseas Countries and Territories of the European Union that are regulated under Part IV of the TFEU.
