Summary: Although New Mexico does not currently have a comprehensive privacy law, the New Mexico's Privacy Protection Act (PPA), under §§57-12B-1 et seq. of Article 12B of Chapter 57 of the New Mexico Statutes, is focused on the protection of social security numbers.
New Mexico was also the 48th state to adopt a data breach notification law: the Data Breach Notification Act under Chapter 57 of the Laws of New Mexico 2017 (the Data Breach Notification Act). The Data Breach Notification Act imposes data breach notification obligations on any person who owns or licenses elements that include personal identifying information of a New Mexico resident and conditions for notifying the New Mexico Attorney General (AG), among other things.
