Argentina: AAIP announces revalidation of adequacy status by EU
On January 15, 2024, the Argentinian data protection authority (AAIP) announced that the European Commission revalidated the status of Argentina as a suitable country for the free cross-border flow of personal data. In particular, the AAIP recounted that the evaluation process, which began in 2018, was based on the following achievements, according to the EU report:
- the AAIP being an independent body;
- the ratification of the Protocol amending the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data (Convention 108+); and
- the plans to update the Personal Data Protection Act, Act No. 25.326 of 2000 (the Law 25.326) with a new Personal Data Protection Bill.
