Somalia: Authority publishes guidance for implementing Data Protection Act
On February 3, 2024, the Somali data protection authority (the Authority) published guidance for the implementation of the Data Protection Act (the Act).
In particular, the guidance provides direction to organizations and the larger public on how to implement the Act within their businesses. The Authority suggests the following for organizations to kick-start compliance:
- raise awareness;
- create a data inventory;
- conduct a risk evaluation; and
- develop a roadmap.
Furthermore, the guidance also details the requirements and processes for conducting a data protection audit to identify gaps that are present in the organization's compliance, as well as providing an audit checklist.
