New South Wales: IPC releases 2023-2024 annual report

On October 22, 2024, the Information and Privacy Commission (IPC) released its annual report for the 2023-2024 reporting period. The IPC stated that the report was tabled in the New South Wales Parliament on October 21, 2024.

Key statistics

The report highlights that during the reporting period, the IPC:

  • received 52 mandatory breach notifications;
  • dealt with 3,123 inquiries from the public, an increase of 27 from the 3,096 dealt with in 2022/2023;
  • finalized 658 information access and privacy reviews and complaints, a decrease of 46 from the 2022/2023 reporting period; and
  • finalized 21 strategic and regulatory initiatives across the IPC's Strategic Plan.

Further, the report highlighted that the IPC continued to raise awareness of privacy and information access rights with the release of 21 new information access, privacy, and corporate publications, as well as the update of 41 publications.
