Montenegro: AZLP publishes a summary of its activities in 2023
On February 6, 2024, the Agency for Personal Data Protection and Free Access to Information (AZLP) published a press release in which it looked back on its activities in 2023 in the field of data protection.
The AZLP highlighted that 260 natural and legal persons contacted the AZLP in 2023, 127 of which brought inquiries related to misuse of personal data, representing an increased interest in privacy rights compared to the previous year. The AZLP noted that the main concerns were:
- unjustified withholding of identity cards from third parties;
- processing of personal data when purchasing goods, unauthorized use of citizens' phone numbers for marketing purposes;
- video surveillance in residential buildings, hotels, and other facilities;
- online betting; and
- exercising rights in connection with the processing of personal data.
Moreover, the AZLP stated that it received 137 requests for opinions on the application of the Personal Data Protection Law 79/08, 70/09, 044/12, and 022/17 (PDPL).
