Macau: GPDP issues fine of MOP 1.08M for telemarketing violations
The Office for Personal Data Protection ('GPDP') announced, on 15 July 2020, that it had fined Hoi Sheung Sociedade Unipessoal Limitada MOP 1,080,000 (approx. €118,485) for telemarketing violations. In particular, the GPDP noted that, after investigation, activities were found to be in violation of Articles 6, 10, and 12 of the Personal Data Protection Act (Act 8/2005), including the lack of justification to carry out telemarketing, failure to ensure information rights, and failure to respect objections of the data subject. As a result, the GPDP imposed a fine and publicly condemned the company, and noted that similar cases were under investigation.
