Guernsey: ODPA announces third quarter breach statistics

On November 7, 2024, the Office of Data Protection Authority (ODPA) published third-quarter breach statistics. The ODPA stated that from July 1, 2024, until September 30, 2024, 40 personal data breaches were reported which affected 2,837 people. The ODPA also noted that 517 people were affected by 'high-risk' data breaches.

The ODPA mentioned a recent case where police informed a retail outlet that a staff member showed CCTV footage to a member of the public. The ODPA stated that this highlights the importance of audit trails for personal data misuse and ensuring that staff members only have access to the personal data required to perform their duties.
