Japan: Sekisui House announces unauthorized access potentially affecting 800,000 individuals

On May 24, 2024, Sekisui House announced that its membership website for homeowners had been subject to unauthorized access and that a total of 830,000 pieces of information on customers, employees, and others registered in the website's database had been leaked or are at risk of being leaked.

Sekisui House explained that the incident was caused by an inherent security flaw on the website and that traces of an external cyberattack exploiting this flaw were confirmed. In this respect, Sekisui House noted that the affected personal information included email addresses, login IDs, and passwords.

Sekisui House highlighted that it had already reported the incident to the Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC), consulted with the police, and is contacting affected customers and employees.
