Shandong: Internet Information Office orders removal of websites for illegal marketing
The Shandong Internet Information Office published, on 10 August 2021, a notice on the removal of 13 websites for illegal marketing in violation of the Administrative Measures on Internet Information Services, Provisions on the Governance of Network Information Content Ecology, and Online Live Marketing Management Measures (for Trial Implementation), among others.
Background to the case
In particular, the Internet Information Office noted that websites were reported as, among other things, illegally using the registration information of individuals. As a result, the Internet Information Office commenced investigations into the same.
Findings of the Internet Information Office
As a result, the Internet Information Office determined that the aforementioned websites were in violation of applicable laws and regulations.
Outcomes
Following its investigation, the Internet Information Office highlighted that it has ordered the removal of the aforementioned websites in order to effectively safeguard the network environment and protect the legitimate rights and interests of internet users. Furthermore, the Internet Information Office reminded all websites and platforms across the province to earnestly perform their main management responsibilities and strengthen reviews of information released online.
