Saarland: Commissioner publishes 2023 activity report
On April 24, 2024, the Saarland data protection authority (Saarland Commissioner) published its 2023 activity report.
In particular, the report outlines that during the reporting period the Saarland Commissioner:
- received 1,493 data protection inquiries, with a large number of complaints relating to video surveillance;
- was notified of 727 data protection violations, compared to 429 in 2022;
- issued 11 warnings, 10 orders, and nine fines (with the total fines amounting to €208,375);
- addressed several data protection issues relating to the digitalization of administration, internal security, health and social affairs, education, internet, and advertising; and
- assisted in the legislative process in the constitution and cooperation on the newly created institutions' child protection officer, child protection network, and an ombudsman's office for victims of sexual violence in schools.
