Iowa: Bill for consumer data protection passes both House and Senate

Senate File 262 for an Act relating to consumer data protection was substituted for House File 346, and passed, on 15 March 2023, by the Iowa House of Representatives in a unanimous vote. In particular, the bill was previously passed by the State Senate, on 6 March 2023, and shall now be passed to the Governor for approval. Furthermore, the bill would provide for data processor's duties, including assisting the data controller in their duties, fulfilling the controller's obligations to respond to requests to exercise consumer rights, and meeting the controller's obligations with respect to the security of processing personal data and the notification of a security breach.
