Alaska: HB 159 for Consumer Data Privacy Act introduced in House of Representatives
House Bill ('HB') 159 for an Act establishing the Consumer Data Privacy Act was introduced, on 31 March 2021, to the Alaska House of Representatives. In particular, the bill affords consumers, among other things:
- the right to know when businesses are collecting their personal information;
- the right to learn what information businesses have collected about them for the last five years and whether businesses have sold or disclosed that information to third parties;
- the right to request that businesses delete any personal information that has been collected within the last five years; and
- the right to prevent businesses from selling their personal information.
In addition, the bill ensures the protection of personal information against such monetisation and sets strong penalties for violations of the act, among other things.
A companion bill, Senate Bill ('SB') 116 was introduced, on 31 March 2021, to the Alaska State Senate.

HB 159 for the Consumer Data Privacy Act dies in State House
OneTrust DataGuidance confirmed, on 14 June 2021, with the Alaska State Legislature that House Bill ('HB') 159 for an Act establishing the Consumer Data Privacy Act has died following its failure to pass the Alaksa House Labor and Commerce Committee, as the legislative session has ended.
