Brazil: Commission reviews amendments to AI bill
On June 18, 2024, the Temporary Commission for Artificial Intelligence in Brazil (the Commission) published its report analyzing amendments to Bill No. 2338/2023 on the use of artificial intelligence (the bill). The Commission voted for the passing of some of the amendments and proposed a consolidated draft of the bill.
In particular, the consolidated draft designated the Brazilian data protection authority (ANPD) as the competent authority to coordinate the National System for Artificial Intelligence Regulation and Governance (SIA), also created by the draft bill. The ANPD would also aim to reduce the regulatory asymmetry in unregulated sectors that use artificial intelligence (AI). Furthermore, the ANPD would have the power to impose sanctions.
You can read the report here and track the bill's progress here, both only available in Portuguese.
