EU: EDPB publishes 2023 annual report
On April 22, 2024, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) published its annual report for 2023. The report provides a summary of the work the EDPB carried out in the last year and highlights:
- activities including adopting binding decisions, consistency opinions, and carrying out stakeholder consultations;
- the adoption of general guidance relating to deceptive design patterns and the use of facial recognition in law enforcement;
- legislative consultation carried out for the Opinions on the adequate protection of personal data under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the Joint Opinion with the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) on the proposal for additional procedural rules relating to the enforcement of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); and
- enforcement cooperation and enforcement carried out by the various data protection authorities around the EEA.
Furthermore, the report also provides information on data protection authorities' budget and staff, as well as consultations relating to legislation and draft adequacy decisions.
