Thuringia: TLfDI discusses risks for Outlook users on Windows 11
On November 17, 2023, the Thuringian data protection authority (TLfDI) published a statement regarding updates to the Outlook application on Windows 11. In particular, the TLfDI confirmed that the updates permit Microsoft to store users' details in the Microsoft Cloud, including usernames and passwords. In addition, the TLfDI noted that Microsoft grants itself full access to the users' mailboxes without adequately informing users, highlighting that the purposes for which Microsoft uses the data remain unclear.
To this end, the TLfDI urged users to carefully consider authorizing the Outlook updates and to exercise their right of choice to avoid these updates.
