Thuringia: TLfDI publishes 2021 activity report, highlights 40% increase in breach notifications

The Thuringia State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information ('TLfDI') announced, on 21 October 2022, the publication of its 2021 activity report. In particular, the report outlines that, in the reporting period, it had received 21,226 incoming communications, of which 4,670 related to a complaint procedure under Article 77 of the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) ('GDPR). In addition, the TLfDI provided that it had opended 115 new fine proceedings, with a total of 72 penalty notices issued, highlighting that the total amount of the fines imposed in the reporting period is of €61,325. Moreover, the TLfDI provided that it had received 283 data breach notifications, which constitutes an increase of almost 40% compared to the previous year.
