International: Telecom Egypt and Greek Grid Telecom sign MoU on ICT cooperation

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology ('MCIT') announced, on 10 February 2022, that Telecom Egypt and Grid Telecom, a subsidiary of the Greek Independent Power Transmission Operator, signed a Memorandum of Understanding ('MoU') to link Egypt and Greece using submarine cable systems. In particular, Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology stated that the MoU will contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries in ICT by optimising the Mediterranean data route between Egypt and Greece, noting that this will facilitate massive flows of data worldwide, which is exponentially increasing.

Furthermore, the Greek Minister of Digital Governance stated that the two countries' robust infrastructure for submarine cables will be able to provide ICT services and data transmission with high quality, huge capacities, and great speeds and noted the great significance of this due to the importance and ability of the cable route to enhance connectivity in the two countries and across the continents of the world and achieve growth in digital markets.
