Washington: Bill on establishing an AI task force referred to Committee on Appropriations

On February 21, 2024, Senate Bill 5838 on establishing an Artificial Intelligence Task Force was referred to the Committee on Appropriations after the majority of the House Committee on Consumer Protection & Business passed the bill with amendments on the same date. In particular, the bill was read for the first time in the House of Representatives on February 10, 2024.

More specifically, the bill aims to establish a task force to assess the current uses and trends and make recommendations to the legislature regarding guidelines and potential legislation for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) systems. Notably, the bill was substituted for the second time and passed the third reading in the Senate on February 8, 2024.
