Seychelles: CBS announces investigation of ransomware attack at DBS's network

The Central Bank of Seychelles ('CBS') announced, on 11 September 2020, that it is closely investigating a report by the Development Bank of Seychelles ('DBS') on a ransomware attack on its network. In particular, the CBS noted that it has been engaging with the DBS to establish the exact nature and circumstances of the incident, and that the DBS has had to maintain communication with its clients, particularly within the banking sector, throughout this process. Moreover, the CBS highlighted that the impact of cyber attacks on the financial system is closely monitored and discussed at the regulatory level by the Financial Stability Committee and that engagement with the DBS will help identify areas of vulnerability which could have led to the ransomware attack.
