Saskatchewan: OIPC announces investigation on eHealth potential breach

The Office of the Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner ('OIPC') announced, on 16 January 2020, that it is undertaking an investigation into a cyberattack on the computer systems of eHealth Saskatchewan, service provider of health information in the province. In particular, the OIPC noted that the investigation will, among other things, examine whether there was a breach of personal information or personal health information, and if so, determine the scope of the breach, the circumstances leading to it, and what measures eHealth could have taken to prevent and contain the breach. Moreover, the OIPC highlighted that it will investigate ways eHealth can help ensure the future security of personal information and avoid future attacks.
