Philippines: NPC releases statement on alleged data breach involving Toyota, Robinsons, and S&R

On June 6, 2024, the National Privacy Commission (NPC) issued a press statement addressing recent concerns regarding reported data breaches involving Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation, Robinsons Land Corporation, and S&R Membership Shopping. The NPC aimed to provide updates on the recent data breach notifications received from various personal information controllers.

Robinsons Land notified the NPC of a data breach on June 1, 2024, and Toyota informed the NPC of a breach on May 14, 2024. Both reports are currently under evaluation to determine the extent and impact of these breaches.

In a related development, the NPC explained that the Philippine National Police (PNP) had reported six data breach notifications occurring in May 2024. However, as of June 6, 2024, there had been no official notification of any data breach involving S&R.
