Panama: Cabinet Council endorses data protection bill
The Cabinet Council endorsed, on 18 January 2017, the Data Protection Bill ('the Bill'), which seeks to safeguard and guarantee the fundamental right to data protection by establishing regulations on the processing of personal data. The Bill contemplates the application of international standards and includes a provision for the creation of a Personal Data Protection Council that would support the National Authority on Transparency and Access to Information ('ANTAI').
The Bill will be sent to the National Assembly for discussion.

The Government announced, on 8 February 2017, that the Minister of the Presidency, Ãlvaro Alemán, sent the Bill to the National Assembly for consideration.
