Nigeria: NCC issues Consumer Code of Practice Regulations 2024
On July 30, 2024, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) issued the Consumer Code of Practice Regulations, 2024, thereby repealing the Consumer Code of Practice Regulations, 2007. The new Regulation aims to protect consumers by ensuring fair practices and transparency in the communications industry in Nigeria. The Regulations apply to all Licensees of the NCC and prescribe the procedures they should follow in:
- preparing approved Consumer Code of Practice by a Licensee in accordance with Section 106 of the Nigerian Communications Act and the Schedule to these Regulations; and
- determining the content and features of a Consumer Code of Practice to be prepared by a Licensee.
Furthermore, the Regulations also state that a Licensee must not engage in unsolicited telemarketing unless they follow the procedure laid out under Section 28(1) of the Regulations.
