Netherlands: AP publishes recommendation on AI supervision
On November 29, 2024, the Dutch data protection authority (AP) and the National Inspectorate for Digital Infrastructure (RDI) announced the publication of a final recommendation on the supervision of artificial intelligence (AI) under the European Artificial Intelligence Act (the AI Act).
In particular, the recommendation elaborates on the advice made by the AP and RDI on November 7, 2024. Specifically, the recommendation details how different supervisory authorities may regulate different sectors and use cases of AI. This includes three central supervisory formats, namely:
- fundamental rights monitoring;
- umbrella coordination and cooperation; and
- the oversight of prohibited AI and transparency.
Notably, the recommendation includes examples of what supervisory authorities would be responsible for supervising specific AI use cases, such as toy robots equipped with AI and AI used for warehouse task distribution.
