Monaco: CCIN publishes 2023 activity report

On May 4, 2024, the Monegasque data protection authority (CCIN) published its 2023 activity report. The report highlights key data protection trends and regulatory actions taken by the CCIN in 2023.

According to the report, 49 complaints were filed with the CCIN in 2023, an increase from the 41 complaints received in 2022. The report noted that 28 of the complaints concerned the deletion of content published online, marking the third consecutive year in which the number of such complaints increased.

The CCIN highlighted that in 2023, it received five complaints regarding the operation of video surveillance devices, with four of the complaints leading to an investigation by the CCIN. The CCIN also received three complaints from former employees of companies whose work email addresses were still active after they had left the organization in question. The CCIN advised that former employees' email addresses should be deactivated after three months and that employers should allow former employees to retrieve any personal emails from their work emails.

The report noted that in 2023, the CCIN issued three warnings, on various entities due to among other things, violations of data subject access rights and illegal video surveillance. The CCIN also stated that it provided its opinion on two draft bills that concerned the collection of personal data.
