Moldova: NCPDP publishes guide on personal data
On August 30, 2024, the National Center for the Protection of Personal Data (NCPDP) published a guide on personal data. The guide provides advice on various data protection concepts including legal bases for processing, purpose limitation, and special categories of data.
Specifically, the guide highlights that:
- companies are required to appoint a data protection officer (DPO) in certain circumstances, such as when the company processes large amounts of special category data;
- video surveillance by natural persons can only be carried out on the person's own property;
- the processing of special category data is only permitted in cases strictly provided for by law;
- disclosure of personal data is permitted if necessary to achieve a legal purpose;
- companies must establish the purpose and legal basis for the collection and use of personal data; and
- copies of identity documents can only be made in cases provided for in law.
