Minnesota: Omnibus bill containing Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act returned to Senate with amendments
On May 13, 2024, Senate Bill 4942 Omnibus Agriculture, Commerce, Energy, Utilities, Environment and Climate supplemental appropriations, containing Senate Bill 2915 for the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act (the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act), was returned to the Senate from the House of Representatives with amendments. Previously, the bill passed its third reading in the Senate on May 6, 2024.
In particular, the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act would set out various obligations for covered entities that intend to process consumer personal information, establish consumer personal data rights, and provide enforcement authority to the Minnesota Attorney General.
Furthermore, the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act provides numerous definitions and stipulates that controllers must conduct, document, and maintain a data privacy and protection assessment that describes the policies and procedures adopted to comply with the bill.
The Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act, if engrossed, would take effect on July 31, 2024.
