Malaysia: Cybersecurity Act 2024 comes into effect
On August 22, 2024, the Prime Minister published an order determining that the Cybersecurity Act 2024 (the Act) will come into effect on August 26, 2024, after receiving Royal Assent on June 18, 2024.
The Act provides for:
- the establishment of the National Cyber Security Committee;
- duties and powers of the Chief Executive of the National Cyber Security Agency;
- functions and duties of the national critical information infrastructure (CII) sector leads and entities;
- management of cybersecurity threats and cybersecurity incidents to national CII;
- the regulations for cybersecurity service providers; and
- the obligation of cybersecurity providers to be licensed.
