Hungary: NAIH publishes annual report for 2023
On March 28, 2024, the National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH) announced that it had issued its 2023 annual activity report. In particular, the report noted that, during the reporting period, the NAIH registered 8,672 new cases, with 2,342 cases carried over from previous years.
The report further highlighted that the investigation cases based on a complaint saw the most significant turnover, with 2,117 cases, and that the NAIH handed out fines amounting to a total of HUF 524,375,000 (approx. $1.43 million), of which HUF 518,500,000 (approx. $1.41 million) were data protection fines, HUF 5,345,000 (approx. $14,620) were procedural fines, and HUF 530,000 (approx. $11,450) were enforcement fines.
