Greece: Ministry of Digital Governance publishes list of enforcement bodies relating to AI Act

On November 12, 2024, the Ministry of Digital Governance announced that it had fulfilled the first national obligation for the implementation of the EU's Artificial Intelligence Act (the AI Act) by publishing a list of public bodies and institutions that are supervising or enforcing obligations under EU law on the protection of fundamental rights, including the right to non-discrimination, when using high-risk artificial intelligence (AI) systems, within the meaning of the AI Act. The list includes:

  • the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (HDPA);
  • the Ombudsman;
  • the Communications Privacy Authority; and
  • the National Human Rights Commission.

Furthermore, the Ministry emphasized that the listed authorities will be granted additional powers, such as access to any documentation created or maintained by an organization for its compliance with the AI Act. In addition, the Ministry highlighted that these additional powers will apply from August 2, 2026.
