Cyprus: Commissioner publishes guidance for compliance with GDPR
On February 19, 2024, the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection (the Commissioner) published a guide to compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In particular, the Commissioner noted that the guide, in the form of questions, provides the opportunity for controllers and processors to investigate and/or assess at the first stage whether their processing operations and their actions are in line with the GDPR. In addition, the Commissioner underscored that the guide provides indicative questions regarding the adoption of organizational and technical measures to ensure the protection of the data being processed.
Furthermore, the guide includes sections such as the data protection officer, legal basis of processing, requirements towards data subjects, transfer of personal data, etc., and the Commissioner advices that it is not an exhaustive list; thus, controllers and processors should use it in consideration of the categories of data they process, the processing they carry out, and their field of activity.
