Chile: National cybersecurity policy for 2023-2028 published

OneTrust DataGuidance confirmed with Paulina Silva of Bitlaw on April 4, 2024, that on December 4, 2023, the National Cybersecurity Policy for 2023-2028 was approved and published in the National Library of Congress.

The policy focuses on five main objectives:

  • resilient information infrastructure for the country;

  • protection and promotion of the rights of the people on the internet;

  • development of a cybersecurity culture for the country;

  • national and international coordination of necessary cybersecurity actions; and

  • promotion of the cybersecurity industry and scientific research.

As it relates specifically to the protection of people, the bill outlines additional goals for all initiatives to include priority for women, preferential protection for children, preferential protection for the elderly, and minimal negative impact on the environment. The policy states that an action plan will be published separately to allow for timely improvements and amendments during the implementation of the policy, if amendments are needed. The policy also outlines the relationship between other policies already enforced and details how objectives between the various policies align together.

You can read the policy, only available in Spanish, here.
