Carlos Affonso Souza holds a PhD and a Master's degree in Civil Law from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Uerj). He is a professor at the Uerj Law School and at PUC-Rio, teaching subjects such as Law and Technology, Contract Law, and Legal History. He has been a visiting researcher at the Information Society Project at Yale University Law School. Since 2007, he has been a member of the Copyright Law Commission of the OAB/RJ, a Policy Fellow at the NGO Access, a consultant for the Internet Observatory in Brazil, an initiative of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br). He is a co-founder and director of the Institute for Technology and Society (ITS).
