Data globalisation is alive
In his regular editorial, Editor of Data Protection Leader Magazine and Partner at Hogan Lovells, Eduardo Ustaran discusses data localisation, global data flows, and the need for robust privacy protections in the context of international data transfers.
“The march of data localisation as a geopolitical force has been relentless in recent years. Partly the result of a backlash against globalisation, and partly an opportunity to advance economic protectionist policies, data localisation has been embraced by policy makers, regulators, and activists in such a powerful way that even the most global companies have had to devise strategies to play the game.”
AI – A selected comparison of global risk management and regulatory frameworks
Mary Jane Wilson-Bilik, Lorna Doggett, and Phillip James from Eversheds Sutherland compare a selection of global frameworks relating to AI, including the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, the AI Whitepaper published by the UK Government, and the White House Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights.
“As advancements in technology continue to grow at a rapid pace, more and more organizations are turning to artificial intelligence (AI) for various uses. Whilst AI has the potential to benefit society in countless ways, its use does not come without various risks.”
How is children’s data being protected?
Lorna Cropper, Director at Fieldfisher LLP, takes a closer look at the UK’s Age Appropriate Design Code and how organizations can meet the objectives of the code.
“The Code has certainly provided a catalyst for improving design and the strategy of organizations with respect to children and achieving a balance between allowing them access to the wealth of benefits online whilst keeping them safe and providing an environment that sustains their health and wellbeing.”
Meet a DPO: Philippe Sundfeld
We caught up with Philippe Sundfeld to discuss the day-to-day of being a DPO, how he approached privacy at Wildlife Studios, and how he is approaching change in the privacy landscape.
“I fell in love with data protection and privacy during my master’s degree. I dealt with other subject matter for several years before deciding to go in-house and focus solely on data protection and privacy. One of the reasons I love working with privacy at Wildlife Studios is that I get to go into detail about how a mobile app works.”
