Kazakhstan: MDAI approves rules for the collection and processing of personal data

The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace ('MDAI') approved, on 23 October 2020, the Rules for the Collection and Processing of Personal Data, which set out requirements for the collection, use, and processing of personal, and data subject rights. In particular, the rules include, among other things, the right to be informed on what personal data is collected and stored, and for what purposes, the right to rectify, the right to restrict processing, and the right to request the destruction of personal data where a violation of the rules on collection of data occurs.

The rules were promulgated in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan of 21 May 2013 No. 94-V on Personal Data and its Protection, with the MDAI acting as the competent authority to administer the rules.
