Oman: TRA publishes guidelines for internet service providers in light of transition to IPv6 protocol

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority ('TRA') published, on 10 August 2020, guidelines ('the Guidelines') for internet service providers aiming to provide them with guidelines and recommendations to achieve a coordinated transition from IPv4 to IPv6. In particular, the Guidelines note that all new IP based services, such as cloud computing and data centres, within the private and public sector, should be able to run IPv6 protocols with immediate effect, and that certain security measures must be implemented. More specifically, with regards to security, the Guidelines propose the use of network security equipment, including firewalls, of Internet Protocol Security ('IPSec') to authenticate and provide confidentiality to assets, as well as the implementation of a security assessment to identify vulnerabilities.
