BES Islands: CBP BES issues 2018 annual report
The Commission for the Supervision of Data Protection BES ('CBP BES') issued, on 31 August 2019, its 2018 annual report ('the Report'). In particular, the Report highlights, among other things, the increasing interest in privacy as a subject on the three islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba, identifies important areas such as pseudonymisation of data, retention policies, protection of data in the healthcare industry, and proper use of IT systems. In addition, the Report seeks to further understand the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) ('GDPR') on local companies, and on the operations of CBP BES data transfers, as well as calling for an expansion of the advisory roles of the CBP BES and committing to the allocation of resources for providing advice in 2019.
