On March 20, 2024, the Personal Data Protection Service (PDPS) published recommendations on video and audio monitoring.
In particular, the recommendations address the data protection aspects applicable to video and audio monitoring, such as:
- the definition in writing of the purpose, scope, and duration of the video and audio monitoring, as well as the retention period of the recordings;
- the obligations related to video monitoring in the workplace;
- the prohibition of video monitoring in changing rooms and spaces designated for hygiene;
- the obligations and restrictions related to video monitoring in residential buildings;
- the right of data subjects to be aware of the monitoring;
- the technical and organizational measures necessary for data security; and
- the need to carry out an impact assessment.
The PDPS also noted that the guidelines will be updated periodically and are open to suggestions and comments via the email [email protected].
