On December 4, 2023, the Telecommunications/ICT Regulatory Authority of Côte d'Ivoire (ARTCI) announced its initiative to conduct a study on the impact of advanced technologies on the protection of personal data, in accordance with Article 47 of Law 2013-450 on the Protection of Personal Data. The ARTCI states that the aim of the study is to ensure that the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) and artificial intelligence (AI) aligns with the freedoms and privacy protection of users across the country.

What areas will the study cover?

The study will cover various technological areas, including:

  • professional uses of biometrics (fingerprint, facial recognition, etc.);
  • uses and risks of video surveillance and video protection;
  • professional and domestic uses of drones (leisure, industry, etc.); and
  • development of AI and its professional and private uses.

The ARTCI encouraged users to actively participate by completing the relevant questionnaires and the results will be published on the ARTCI website.
