What is the LGPD?
A Lei Geral de Proteço de Dados Pessoais (LGPD) became Brazil's first comprehensive personal data privacy law on September 18, 2020. The LGPD builds on previous sectoral regulations that established oversight of data processing activities in Brazil and is similar to other existing global data protection legislation. The LGPD creates and protects individuals' rights and freedoms while also increasing openness for its covered data subjects. The law regulates the operations of data controllers and processors and establishes standards for how they deal with personal data and is enforced by the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD).
