Yukon: IPC issues warning to public bodies and custodians about a new cybersecurity threat
The Yukon Information and Privacy Commissioner ('IPC') issued, on 17 March 2022, an advisory to warn Yukon public bodies and custodians about a new cybersecurity threat related to the Ukrainian conflict, and to encourage these public bodies and custodians to take the necessary measures to limit the risks associated with these attacks. In particular, the IPC warned public bodies and custodians about a malware that destroys data on computer systems and disables the ability to re-boot, or otherwise recover the machine, and is predominantly propagated via phishing emails. Moreover, the IPC announced that it has received no indication of activity in Canada as of yet, but is disseminating this information out of an abundance of caution.
