Saarland: Saarland Commissioner issues guidance on mandatory customer data processing during Coronavirus
The Saarland data protection authority ('the Saarland Commissioner') issued, on 3 June 2020, guidance ('the Guidance') on the mandatory processing of personal data of customers during the COVID-19 ('Coronavirus') pandemic. In particular, the Guidance highlights that the Ordinance to Combat the Corona Pandemic of 15 May 2020, as amended on 29 May 2020, has an extended scope and includes theatres, opera and concert halls, and also applies to operators of cinemas and indoor playgrounds. Moreover, the Guidance provides that data should be stored for one month by service providers, taking into account, among other things, the principle of purpose limitation, and data security by using end-to-end encryption when data needs to be transferred to public health authorities.
