Portugal: Administrative Court confirms CNPD's decision on Municipality of Lisbon

On August 13, 2024, the Portuguese data protection authority (CNPD) announced that the Lisbon Administrative Court confirmed the CNPD's decision 2021/1569, in which the CNPD found that the Municipality of Lisbon unlawfully processed protestors' sensitive data and transferred it to third parties, in breach of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The CNPD highlighted that the Administrative Court confirmed the CNPD's conclusions that the Municipality had violated the GDPR and applied a fine of € 1.02 million, € 222,500 below what the CNPD had initially applied.
