Mali: APDP convenes Working Group for data security and confidentiality standard

The Malian data protection authority ('APDP') announced, on 6 January 2020, that it had convened a working group ('the Working Group') for the development of a data security and confidentiality standard ('the Standard') to be observed by data controllers from 26 December 2019 to 27 December 2019. In particular, the APDP highlighted that the creation of the Standard is based on Article 69 of the Law No. 2013/015 of 23 May 2013 on the Protection of Personal Data in the Republic of Mali ('the Law') and will define the guidelines on security and confidentiality measures intended for data controllers without precluding the application of the sectoral regulations in force with regard to data security and confidentiality. In addition, the APDP noted that the Working Group aims to incorporate Article 8 of the Law which provides that the data controller takes useful precautions to preserve the security of data, in particular to prevent it from being distorted, damaged or prevent unauthorised third party access to it, and concerns manual and automated processing.
