Georgia: PDPS publishes guidelines on data processing principles under the Data Protection Act 2023
On February 28, 2024, the Personal Data Protection Service (PDPS) developed guidelines on data processing principles, including transparency and data security, which were introduced by the Data Protection Act 2023.
The guidelines provide details on the meaning of each principle and further recommendations and examples from the PDPS on their application. In particular, the guidelines highlighted that the principle of transparency requires data subjects to be informed about what types of personal data related to them are collected, used, disclosed, or otherwise processed, in a manner that is understandable by the data subjects.
Moreover, the guidelines detailed certain aspects of the data security principle, such as the need to put in place appropriate measures aimed at:
- data breach management;
- cybersecurity; and
- physical and organizational safety.
The guidelines further indicated the importance of regularly updating security measures.
The PDPS also noted that the guidelines will be updated periodically and are open to suggestions and comments via the email [email protected].
