Chile: Data protection bill passes Senate
On January 3, 2024, the Chilean Senate approved Bill No. 11144-07 Regulating the Processing and Protection of Personal Data and Creating the Personal Data Protection Authority in its third constitutional process, following its approval, on the same date, by the Constitution, Legislation, Justice, and Regulation Commission.
In particular, the bill aims to improve the rules relating to the processing of personal data of natural persons and create the Personal Data Protection Agency, a public body in charge of ensuring the protection of personal data. Members of the Senate will be responsible for the appointment of the Personal Data Protection Agency.
